Werá who lives in the Krukutu aldeia ( village ) on the ancestral indigenous lands of Tenonde Porã, 35 kilometers south of the city of São Paulo, speaks only Guarani, and is passionate about his culture. He also enjoys learning about Brazilian popular culture from behind his computer screen, and is learning Portuguese from his limited exposure to visiting teachers at his local school. He also enjoys video games, soccer, making new friends and even has an account on facebook. But what Werá prefers beyond everything, is spending his early mornings practicing violin in his room.
During the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, a 13 year old indigenous Guarani indigenous boy named Werá Jeguaka Mirim unfurled a large red banner with the word "Demarcação", the Portuguese word for "demarcation". This bold action was not broadcasted live on air, but went viral online bringing attention to current indigenous land demarcation still being battled in Brazilian court rooms today.
